The big debate: Soccer players vs football players When I look at football and soccer players, I see some of the most athletic people. But the big debate is between who is needed to be more athletic. Soccer players and football players alike need to be in peak physical condition at all times. The average soccer player runs 7 miles per game with only a break after the first 45 minutes and also plays another 45 minutes without break. In football, the players do not need to be in quite as good of running condition as you do in soccer. While the players who run the most in the NFL, the cornerbacks and wide receivers, only run on average 1.25 miles per game. "According to the Wall Street Journal, players are only actually moving for 11 minutes on average during an NFL game....The rest is mostly standing around." For football you have to be much stronger with your upper body. Soccer is all about cardiovascular health. In soccer you will rarely ever see an obese player at the high school age, nonetheless see an obese see a pro soccer player. In football, the whole entire front line is quite overweight and not very healthy because of this obesity. The highest-paid soccer player right now is Cristiano Ronaldo and he is getting paid 73 million a year, while the highest-paid football player is only getting paid 17.5 million and that is jay cutler. Also, the World Cup was just under seven times more watched than the Super Bowl. This shows that there is a larger market for soccer than there is for football. So in contrast, soccer and football are both very athletic. The difference between soccer players and footballs are the shape they need to be in. Soccer players are more athletic and have better cardiovascular health while football players need to be stronger and more upper body strength.
In Theology class we were talking about prejudice. The conversation was about groups and prejudice that goes along with each of the usual groups in schools. The word popular and popularity came up. A girl in my class associated popularity with money, friends and looks. What she said made me really start thinking about who in my life was really actually 'popular'. To start off, I always think that popularity should not be a thing, but of course not everyone agrees with this notion. I really don't like the use of the word popular because it sounds self absorbed or petty. I think if we do chose to use a word such as popular, then it should used in a positive way. I believe popularity should be judged on a persons actions and how they treat others instead of how rich they are and how good they look. Everyone has their own groups of friends, and that is okay. What isn't okay is tagging each group as popular or not popular depending on what they are like. If someone is 'popular' it should be based on how they treat others and how they compose themselves, not their amount of friends or wealth.
As the Christmas season comes upon us we start to see a lot of commercials trying to sell us their product or to get us in their store. The biggest day of the year for shopping is always Black Friday. Black Friday has turned into a money focused time for store owners, and less time focused on the holiday at hand, thanksgiving. I don't think stores should be allowed to be open on thanksgiving because this is a time for families to get together and share a meal with eachother. This should not be a time when workers have to go in at 6 pm on thanksgiving to open up a Black Friday sale. The whole point of thanksgiving is to "give thanks" for what we have. The next day we end up waiting in lines and trampling someone to death just to get more stuff or on sale items. Weren't we, as the whole of America, just being thankful for all we have and then we turn around the next day because what we have isn't enough. It seems to me quite contradictory. I'm not saying that I'm against the sales, but I am saying that we should at least keep the stores closed until Friday, and not open on thanksgiving day. I do enjoy the sales, but I refuse to go out on the day that I am supposedly be thankful for all the stuff I have just to get more stuff and maybe save a few dollars.
